One of Børge Mogensen’s most celebrated designs, his 1958 Spanish Chair has quite a strong presence, with its solid oak construction and sturdy, high-quality saddle leather seat. Over time, as the natural hide expands, the adjustable straps can be tightened as needed — a reflection of the designer’s emphasis on longevity as a tenet of modernism. Thoroughly Danish in its functionality and and visual simplicity, the lounge chair’s unique style was also fueled by the designer’s appreciation of European traditions.
